BR 4-6-2 70000 "Britannia"

70000

BR Standard pacific no. 70000 "Britannia" was the first of a class of locomotives designed by Robert Riddles and is the only other preserved example of the class apart from 70013 "Oliver Cromwell"
Built at Crewe it entered service in January 1951 and the loco was withdrawn in 1966. The engine is seen here in March 2011 beside the turntable at Minehead during the WSR Spring Steam Gala. The black livery and lack of nameplate emulate the condition of the locomotive when first put into service. Photo DGC.
