Work has continued on the lining out of the corridor side: this is now over the half way mark.
The vehicle looks much better for it. The G&SWR moquette ordered for compartments 2 to 6 has now arrived and is rather
attractive.
The main focus of the work during the spring has been on the conservation and repair of the compartments, which have
all now had the Navy grey paint removed and the ceilings repaired and sealed. A coat of gloss white awaits.
The vestibule door at No 1 end has been removed and repaired: it was in a bit of a state having been bashed at Falkirk by a BR diesel. It will be refitted when the steps to the vestibule are removed to allow gangways to be fitted.
Again at No 1 end, the toilet which was virtually destroyed at Falkirk, has now been reconstructed with new panels and mouldings fitted. The wash basin and lavatory pan have also now been installed: these are not the originals, but contemporaneous items from our stock. The toilet has been repainted into the correct colour scheme and a new window manufactured and trial fitted pending glazing. One very interesting discovery, in the darkest corner of the toilet at No2 end, was a pair of mahogany toilet seats. These fit perfectly and are thought to be the originals!
