BVE 4 Routes and Traction

BVE4 This page contains traction and routes specifically written for BVE4. These routes will not work on BVE2 or openBVE as the syntax and features are very different. You can download BVE4 from Mackoy's site.

Edinburgh - Aberdeen Scenery (3.8Mb) 25th Sept. 2007 updated with new objects. The scenery and sounds file which is required for ALL main line routes, timetables and traction in BVE4. Much of the scenery has been upgraded again to improve things - in particular the pointwork has seen a major amount of effort. Note: This route requires that you download Steve Green's BrSigs and Semaphore Sigs pack from the Trainsimcentral website. Timetables now 24-bit bmps. New signals and improved? bit-maps have been added. You must use this updated scenery file to run all Edinburgh routes dated 21st Sept. 2007 or later.

Bo'ness - Birkhill Scenery updated 21st Sept. 2007 The scenery and sounds file which is required for ALL Bo'ness - Birkhill runs in BVE4. Much of the scenery has been upgraded to improve things since the BVE2 version.

Route and Timetable Files

The main line routes have been updated with newer scenery and improved signalling.

Double headed Class 37 timetable This is Edinburgh Waverley platform 11 to Carnoustie "GOLF SPECIAL" as a SRPS railtour for BVE4. You must download the Class 37 for BVE4 from Steve Green's Trainsimcentral site to run this route. While you are there, don't forget to pick up the BrSigs and BrSemaphores downloads - they are essential as well.

Class 158 timetable. You will need to download both the BrSignals and the (new) BrSemaphoreSignals files from Steve's site to get working semaphores all the way to Aberdeen.  Nice one Steve!

Class 170 Turbostar timetable. Watch out for rain over the bridge! Now runs to HST speed limits and revised Scotrail timetable.

The HST Route file for BVE4. This is the 10:25 NXEC timetabled service from Edinburgh to Aberdeen which leaves from platform 19 at Waverley and arrives at platform 5 in Aberdeen. Timetabled run time is 2hr 37mins but you'll likely arrive early! You will need the BVE4 version of the class 43 (march 06) hosted on Steve Green's site. Dual speed limits!

The Cement Train for BVE4 - thanks to Nigel Broder
and Bill Reid for their feedback. This is a heavy freight simulation running from Linlithgow Loop to Craiginches Up Loop just short of Aberdeen. Experience a bit of the Glasgow - Edinburgh main line before turning north at Winchburgh Junction. The train is hauled by the Class 66 from Steve Green's BVE trains site.

Edinburgh - Carnoustie by 170 and 158 (all stations). The route can now be driven by Class 170 all the way from Edinburgh (platform 16) to Carnoustie. The train is normally formed of a 170 plus 158 set making 5 vehicles - use the 6 car stop signs at stations. This drive uses the Scotrail timetable and is all stations. The trip now uses the new Scotrail timings. As there is a 158 set in the consist, you must use the lower speed limit on the dual limit signs.

Edinburgh - Markinch by 170 (all stations). The route uses the First Scotrail timetable for a 3-car Class 170 run from Edinburgh (platform 16) to Markinch. The train reverses at Markinch a few hundred metres north of the station (the New station!) utilising the crossover just past the overbrige. Look out for the 3/4 car stop sign just beyond the first under-brige after leaving Markinch. This is where the route terminates. Just before the complaints come flooding in, the train normally arrives a couple of minutes early at Kirkcaldy so there will be a bit of a wait there. I know, I use this train every week.

Bo'ness - Birkhill J36 steam run posted 21-9-07 This run up the Bo'ness branch with a class J36 steam engine simulates a service train of 4 Mk1 vehicles running to the normal timetable. Read the timetable for an explanation of the special steam controls. Remember to keep the water level indicator ideally at the centre of the water gauge. Unfortunately it has not been possible (so far) to automate the injector sound - you currently do this manually with the NumPad - key. Watch out for slippery rails!

Bo'ness - Birkhill "Rescue" run posted 29-7-06 This run up and down the Bo'ness branch with a class 47 simulates a rescue mission to liberate a stranded train from Birkhill where the regular class 27 diesel has failed in the loop while running round. Read the "resuce.txt" file bundled with the route for a full explanation and detailed instructions. Don't forget to start up the engine before trying to move off!

Traction Files

Class J36 steam engine.A simulation based on a train of 4 Mk1 coaches hauled by the 1891 built 0-6-0 tender engine "Maude" based on the Bo'ness railway.
Controls are a bit different - you can find out what key does what by reading the timetable on the Bo'ness run for this loco. The injector sound is not automatic yet(unfortunately), and it seems impossible to get the chuffs at the right rate for the speed, but hopefully you'll get some fun out of it! The engine fires itself automatically so you'll not run out of steam!

Class 37 haulage. This configuration is a Class 37 with a load of 6 Mk1 coaches. However, its performance must very closely match that of a pair of 37s with 11 or 12 coaches in tow - much like an SRPS Railtour, in fact. This version of the 37 has full AWS and a working ammeter as well as truly awesome sound. Go on, spoil yourself and crank up the speakers!
